During the summer, the Sociey sponsors walking tours of Old Marblehead, conducted by Bette Hunt. They are not to be missed! Bette is an historian and author, and one of the area's foremost authorities on Marblehead history. Her entertaining flair is both enjoyable and informative. Washington Street and Its Parallels explores Washington, Mechanic, Pearl, and High Streets, as well as Stacey Court and Idler's Hill. Mr. Lee's Neighborhood begins at the Lee Mansion and proceeds to Washington Square, Abbot Hall, Lookout Court, Lee Street, and Tucker Street. Exploring Front Street goes from the Lee Mansion to the Crocker Park Castle, then along Front Street to Fort Sewall. Space is limited and advance reservations recommended. 188 Washington Street at Washington SquareThis town hall, an historic building itself, is located in Old Marblehead. In addition to government offices, it houses Archibald Willard’s famous painting, The Spirit of ‘76.
